4.2.4.15 Others Tab Maintenance Section
- Auto maintenance; enabling this feature will set
VisualGSM service to restart and establish a new
connection with the database server every night
between 0200 to 0300. This is useful for releasing
resources not released by the service over time.
4.2.4.16 Others Tab Log Location Section
- Log Location; sets the folder to which VisualGSM system
logs will be created. The default log location is
\programfiles\Visualtron\visualgsm\vgsmlog\. The
time-stamped VisualGSM system logs contains message
transmit, receive activities, SMSC handshake results,
keyword execution results, and will list any problems
associated with modem, SIM card, and database
connections during startup.
4.2.4.17 Others Tab No Access Rights Return Section
-
Return to User; allows you to customize the response
message VisualGSM returns when a mobile user tries to
access a keyword service in which he/she is not
assigned access rights.
E.g. If the All mobile numbers can access all keywords
option is disabled, any user not assigned to a keyword will
receive a no access warning.
Tip: you can disable the auto-response by leaving this
option empty.

4.2.4.18 SMPP Tab SMPP Connectivity Settings
This Tab allows you to configure SMPP connections (feature
availability only with Mission Critical and Mobile Internet
License).
Global Sender Number refers to the default sender (can be
numeric or alphanumeric if supported by your gateway).
Purpose will define whether you will send or receive or both
send/receive messages through that connection. For SMPP
RX/TX, if purpose is set to IN/OUT, 2 bindings will be made to
the gateway.
You can obtain the rest of your SMPP connection
parameters from your SMPP gateway provider. You can
use the Test button to test your newly created settings
without clicking on Update Changes! Remember to check
Enable Setting to activate the connection.
Heres some explanation on the various settings:

-
Address Range; Address Range" is an SMPP parameter
used when receiving messages. It specifies a set of
addresses, e.g. short code, assigned to this SMPP client
or ESME. A single address may also be specified.
Messages addressed to any destination in this range of
address or to this address shall be routed to the ESME.
Tip:- Set this parameter only if instructed to do so by your
SMPP service provider (SMSC).
- TON and NPI; TON and NPI are parameters used when
sending messages to the SMSC (please check with your
SMSC for the correct setting to use).
TON is the Type of Number of the ESME address/SMPP
client (for the case of Source TON) or Recipient address
(for Destination TON).
TON values are defined as follows:
0 - Unknown
1 - International
2 - National
3 - Network Specific
4 - Subscriber Number
5 - Alphanumeric
6 - Abbreviated
NPI is the Numbering Plan Indicator for ESME address
(for the case of Source NPI) or Recipient address (for
Destination NPI).
NPI values are defined as follows:
0 Unknown
1 - ISDN (E163/E164)
3 - Data (X.121)
4 - Telex (F.69)
6 - Land Mobile (E.212)
8 National
9 Private
10 ERMES
14 - Internet (IP)

-
Source TON and NPI; The Source TON and NPI are settings
that apply to the ESME address (SMPP client address) for
messages that are submitted to the SMSC.
By default, VisualGSM Enterprise sets the Source TON to
0, which is unknown.
If you set Source TON to 1, then you must set the sender
address in international format (the address format with
the country code, for example, in the UK, it will be
447700900720 instead of 0770090720).
If the sender address is contains alphabetic characters
and is not a valid phone number, the Source TON is set
to "5", and the Source NPI is set to "0".
-
Destination TON and NPI; The Destination TON and NPI are
settings that apply to the recipient addresses for
messages that are submitted to the SMSC by VisualGSM
Enterprise.
By default, VisualGSM Enterprise sets the Destination
TON to 1, which is the international format (the format
with the country code, for example, in the UK, it will be
447700900720 instead of 0770090720).
Note: When using SMPP to send messages, please do
not add a + sign to the country code. For example,
447700900720 is correct, while +447700900720 is wrong.
Tip: Please use the default TON and NPI settings when
performing your first test. Send your test message to
recipient number in both international and national
formats. If they don't work, only then do you consult
with your SMPP SMSC service provider for the correct
Source and Destination TON/NPI to use.
-
Is Message Payloaded?; This field is part of the SMPP
specifications, please do not check unless required by
your SMPP service provider.

4.2.4.19 Acknowledgement/Escalation Tab
- Require acknowledgement for outgoing messages;
activates or deactivates a function which can append
a request for acknowledgement note to the message.
The server will track if the recipient replies that message
by checking if the user returns that note.
Tip: this feature if enabled will allow a user to send a
message with an acknowledgement request. The
entire process is handled automatically by the server.
See 4.2.5.9 Send SMS Tab, for more information on how
to request an acknowledgement.
- Acknowledgement Mode; provides the following 3
acknowledgement modes (feature available from
version 4.5.9):
VisualGSM Enterprise User Guide
Visualtron Software Corporation
51
1). Individual Recipients must Ack separately (for direct
numbers and Groups/Users).
2). Any Recipient in the group can Ack on behalf of
Group (for Groups only).
3). Mode 2 with Escalation (to GroupName2 on 1st
resend, GroupName3 on 2nd resend).
- Resend SMS interval (if no acknowledgement is
received); assuming the above feature is activated, the
server will resend the message up 2 times as long as no
acknowledgement is received within intervals (in
seconds) as defined using this feature.
- Session duration; the total duration in which the the server
expects an acknowledgement to a message. If no
acknowledgement is received during this period of
time, the acknowledgement note is free to be used for
other outgoing messages.
This is the Event Viewer button. It will show the log of the
events as they happen. Some of the log details that it
shows are the date, time and common errors or
procedures like checking the physical existence of a
configured port and etc.
This is the Start Service button. When clicked, it will start the
service manager and a pop-up bar will indicate that the
service is starting and the Enterprise Manager module
will not response to any commands from the user at this
point.
Note: the service will not start if there is no working
modem with SIM card connected to the server. The port
settings and service connection setting under Service
Connecting Setting must be correct before the service
can start. If there is a problem with starting the service,

This is the Stop Service button. When clicked, it will stop
the service manager. While it is stopping another pup-up
bar will appear to indicate that the service manager is
stopping and will not accept any commands from the
user.
This is the Pause Service button. When clicked, it will pause
the service manager.
This is the Continue Service button. When clicked, it will
continue the paused service manager. It is only
available when the service manager is paused.
This is the Restart Service button. When clicked, it will first
stop the service manager and then Start the service
manager again. A pop-up bar will indicate that the
service manager is stopping and starting and generally
will take a very long time.

4.2.5 Major Functions Tabs/Configurators.
The configuration for major functions of VisualGSM Enterprise can be
found on a series of tabs on the Manager Console as shown below.
We will explain the purpose of each tab in the following sections.

The following list describes the features of the Service
Manager:
4.2.5.1 Service Manager Tab (Real-time Log)
The first tab is the Service Manager tab and it is used to start,
stop, pause, continue and restart the service. In addition to
this, it will also display the error messages and log files
pertaining to the starting and stopping of the service. The
system log displayed real-time on this tab is also written to a
text log under
/programfiles/Visualtron/visualgsm/vgsmlog/sms_server_log.txt
. The system log contains database connection status, GSM
network status, message transmit and receive information,
and external connector information. Any error generated for
these activities will also be displayed on the real-time log. The
real-time log is especially useful for application developers.
