same GSM network in order for the message to be
received in the correct format.
- Enabled Port; this will disable the port for messaging use if
unchecked. The port settings will be restored if the port
is enabled for use again later.
- Automatically disable/enable when error is raised;
enabling this will allow a server with more than one
modem, to disable a particular port for messaging use
whenever a persistent error is encountered with that
port. The server will try to restore the port after every
pre-defined duration in seconds. This feature will ensure
subsequent messages are sent using working ports.
The duration is defined under the feature
Disable/enable duration (>=300secs) (Modem Tab
Modem Transmission Configuration).
Tip: for modems used for receiving messages from
mobile users, try not to enable this feature for their
corresponding ports, otherwise, messages will be lost.

4.2.4.7 Modem Tab Modem Transmission Configuration
Setting Section
-
Pause Interval to Check Incoming SMS; this specifies the
number of milliseconds spent (between every 10
messages transmitted during a volume broadcast) to
detect for incoming messages. SMSC normally provide
a limited buffer to storage of incoming messages, and
its necessary to download any message whenever
possible to avoid lost of new messages.
Note: a pause of 5000 milliseconds is recommended for
every 10 messages. If you do not expect any incoming
messages, you can set this pause rate to zero for faster
transmission.

-
Retry Times when Sending Failure; this specifies the
number of times the server will attempt to resend a
message if the message is not transmitted successfully.
Unsuccessful transmission can be caused by GSM
network variations, failures or hardware problems.
Note: a retry frequency of up to 10-15 times is
recommended. Please be aware that retries take up
server time, and in the case whereby there are a lot of
wrong mobile numbers, it maybe wise to keep the
number of retry low.
-
Disable/enable duration (>=300secs); this specifies the
time the server will wait, before it tries to use a port
which has been disabled under the feature
Automatically disable/enable when error is raised
(General Tab Modem Settings Section). If the re-
enabling is unsuccessful, the server will disable again for
an equal length of time.
-
Delay between sending SMS; this specifies the wait
duration between each outgoing SMS is processed. For
certain modems systems which can hang easily, you
can increase this duration to prevent failure.
- Send SMS over GPRS; this indicates whether VisualGSM
should use GPRS as bearer for messages. Affects all
types of messages including Text, Flash, Ring Tones,
Operator Logos and WAP Push.
Note: Many networks still do not support SMS over GPRS.
If this function is enabled when the network does not
support SMS over GPRS, VisualGSM may not be able to
transmit messages at all.
4.2.4.8 Modem Tab Multiple Modems Auto-routing Setting
Section
Auto Routing is a feature that is applicable when the server
uses more than 1 modem, and different networks are used

for each modem. See below.
-
Enable Auto Routing; enabling Auto Routing will allow the
server to select the best way to send the message.
Using mobile prefixes, the server can determine the
recipient mobile phone belongs to which network, and
thus select the modem, which is using a SIM card of
that network. Transmission within a network itself
increases speed of delivery and reduces the likelihood
of lost messages.
Note: if theres no modem registered with that network,
the server will select any other available modem, as
long as Allow SMS to be sent across networks is not
unchecked.
-
Allow SMS to be sent across networks; in some countries,
SMS cannot be sent from one network to another. To
prevent VisualGSM from sending across networks when
there is more than 1 modem, you have to uncheck this
feature.
-
Allow Ringtones/Logos to be sent across networks; for
certain countries, logos and ringtones cannot be sent
across networks, even though this is possible for simple
text messages.
4.2.4.9 Modem Tab Application Test Run Mode Setting
Section
-
Start Server Without GSM/GPRS Modem; enabling this
feature will allow you to start VisualGSM service without
a working modem and SIM card. You can also simulate
a Send SMS process by sending a message via Send
SMS tab on the Manager Console. The message will be
automatically updated as Sent in table loglog.
Tip: You can use this feature to test if the database
connection settings are correct, and if the database is
setup correctly.
Note: You will need to toggle this option if you want to
operate VisualGSM by via an SMS delivery channel

other than GSM modems (using Communication
Methods), and do not wish to enable/or do not have a
GSM modem in your system setup. This will allow
VisualGSM to start without modems. (Applicable only
for Mission Critical License).

Note: you need to configure this properly if you intend to
use the Keyword EMAIL type for SMS2Email capability.
- Email Server; this is the IP or URL of the SMTP server.
-
Send to; this is the email of the administrator.
-
Administrator User ID; this is the name of the administrator.
For certain SMTP servers that require authentication, you
maybe required to enter the full email address for this
field.
-
Password; Email password of the administrator (maybe
required for SMTP Servers that require authentication.)

-
Port; SMTP server port number. Default to port 25.
-
Test Email Configuration; this feature allows you to test a
connection to the SMTP server configured as above.
- Server Failure Alert Setting; enabling this feature
- Forward SMS Server errors to vendor; this is disabled by
default. If enabled, errors generated by VisualGSM will
be forwarded to your vendor by email. Please ensure
this option is disabled when your server is deployed for
production purpose.
4.2.4.11 Email Tab Start/stop server success setting Section
- Email Administrator on start/stop; enabling this feature will
ensure that the administrator will receive an email
whenever the service starts or stop. This applies even
for auto-maintenance initiated restarts.

4.2.4.14 Others Tab Web/Firewall Proxy Settings Section
- Proxy Host/Port; this is used when a HTTP URL type
keyword triggered action has to bypass a corporate
firewall or an Internet proxy.
Note: This can happen when VisualGSM operates within
a company firewall/proxy, and a pre-configured HTTP
URL type keyword information service has to use a proxy
gateway to connect to the relevant network resource
on a WAN or the Internet.
