Email2SMS, Alert2SMS, Text2SMS, and SNMP2SMS


VisualGSM Enterprise Series Add-ons
for VisualGSM Mobile Application Server (Enterprise Series) adds Email-2-SMS, new Email Alert by SMS for multiple Email accounts, Text-2-SMS, and SNMP-2-SMS capability to your VisualGSM Enterprise Server installation.


Email-2-SMS Service

Enables your VisualGSM Enterprise Server to act as a common Email-to-SMS conversion gateway, converting Email messages to SMS messages on-the-fly.

Useful for:

1. SMS-enabling Enterprise/Resource Monitoring and Surveillance software that can send out alerts in email messages.

2. Allows personnel, members of a club or students to send messages from their email client, e.g. Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, etc.

3. Allows custom web applications hosted on virtual web hosting accounts to send SMS messages via Email.

Email-2-SMS add-on comes with the following configurable settings:

Email Gateway Settings

Ability to choose between POP3, SMTP(new!) or MAPI interface.
Allows 'live' connectivity test to email interface.
Ability to set check mail interval (in seconds).
Ability to set to bypass mails exceeding a certain size (for filtering spam mails).
Ability to set Email subject or content as SMS message.
Ability to set Email subject or Email recipient as SMS recipient.

SMS Message Settings

Ability to set the maximum number of SMS messages to send for Email messages exceeding 160 characters. every SMS message (e.g. disclaimer or company name).
Ability to append Email sender's email address to SMS message as message footer.
Ability to set custom footer for SMS messages.

Access Rights/Security Settings

Allows SMS to be sent to either/or both pre-defined mobile groups/phonebook users and GSM phone numbers (or MSISDN).
Ability to filter off certain Email sender by email address, email domains, and/or IP address.

Receipt Confirmation Email (For Email received)

Ability to enable/disable Receipt Confirmation Email.
Ability to set subject and message content of Receipt Confirmation Email to Email sender.


Email Alert by SMS Service (Alert2SMS)


Notifies Mobile Personnel by SMS of new incoming Email messages received at their POP3 mailboxes. Email message subject is appended to the notification SMS message.

Useful for:

1. Improving response speed by mobile personnel to important Emails.

2. Allowing group notification of Email received on a particular Email account.

Alert-2-SMS add-on comes with the following configurable settings:

Ability to set and test POP3 account settings for individual users.

Ability to assign POP3 accounts being monitored to corresponding user's mobile phone number or to a mobile group of users.
Ability to activate/deactivate POP3 account monitoring for individual users without deleting the user entry.
Ability to append Email sender's email address to SMS message as message footer.


Text-2-SMS Service


Enables bulk upload of SMS messages to send in text file format. This provides an efficient method of dispatching anywhere from one to hundreds of thousands messages at one go.

Useful for:

1. Enabling dynamic conversion of text log generated by 3rd party applications to SMS messages.

2. Receiving SMS notification from Unix/Mainframe or any 3rd party applications that can export information in text file format.

Text-2-SMS add-on comes with the following configurable settings:

Ability to set one or more files to monitor (UNC path supported), and how frequently a file is checked.
Ability to set the type of delimiter (including tab) that separates recipient and message content in the text import file.
Ability to set the number of lines in the text import file to parse per SMS message.


SNMP-2-SMS Service


Enables SNMP traps to be forwarded as SMS alerts to one or more designated recipients.

The SNMP2SMS Addon allows you to forward SNMP Traps sent by SNMP agents and devices that support SNMP as SMS messages. SNMP2SMS can also obtain MIB object information such as sysDescr, sysUpTime, sysContact, sysName, sysLocation from network entity using the SNMP GET request.

Useful for:

1. Allows IT managers to receive fault and information alarms (SNMP Traps) from SNMP devices such as routers, printers, network attached storage, UPS systems, servers, etc via SMS.

2. Provides a simple SMS alert solution for managing SNMP capable devices without the need for complex setup or software.

SNMP-2-SMS add-on comes with the following configurable settings and features:

Ability to configure recipient based on the source device sending the SNMP trap. A single recipient group or person can also be defined for all devices.
Ability to configure the format of SMS and the SNMP properties* to included in the SMS.

Ability to view the historical log for the SNMP traps processed and forwarded as SMS.

*List of SNMP parameters:

{DateTime} - date/time of the trap generation
{SourceAddress} - address of the agent that generated the trap
{GenericTrap} - indicator of the generic trap
{SpecificTrap} - indicator of the enterprise specific trap
{Enterprise} - enterprise that generated the trap
{Community} - community string of the generated trap
{DeviceDescription} - a textual description of the network device
{DeviceUpTime} - the time (in hundredths of a second) since the network management portion of the device was last re-initialized
{Contact} - the textual identification of the contact person for this managed device, together with information on how to contact this person
{DeviceName} - an administratively-assigned name for this managed node. By convention, this is the device''s fully-qualified domain name
{DeviceLocation} - the physical location of this device


Note: The VisualGSM Enterprise Server comes with SMS-2-Email, SMS-2-Text, SMS-2-CMD and SMS-2-HTTP, HTTP-2-SMS, and SMS-2-SQL features by default.
